Basically this is catered more towards virtual reality when paired with VR headsets like the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or maybe more simple setups like the Gear VR from Samsung or the Google Cardboard. However we suppose regular photo viewing could benefit from this feature as it lets users take in the sights and look at the photo from more dynamic angles.
Of course this will require users to own a camera that can snap 360-degree photos, which honestly isn’t as popular as it should be yet, but we guess at the very least we know that support is there for if and when it becomes a bit more mainstream. We know that Facebook is invested in VR with the Oculus Rift, so this feature makes a lot of sense.
Also we’re starting to see other non-tech companies get into VR as well, like Getty who announced their own VR division in which they will begin stocking up on virtual reality stock photos, so it is possible that we could start seeing news outlets and photographers share their creation on Facebook as well.
