However it looks like that has changed. In addition to announcing a new update for tvOS at WWDC today, Apple has also made some subtle changes that could be good news for developers, and that is by removing the requirement for developers to support the Siri Remote when developing apps for the Apple TV.
Why is this good news? For starters the controller is rather limited, meaning that developers looking to create more complex games would be limited to what they could do. By removing the requirement and making it a “strong suggestion”, developers will have more freedom which could encourage more of them to come on board the tvOS and create games and apps for it.
The only downside is that some developers might exclude the Siri Remote entirely, meaning that there will be some games and apps in which you might need to buy a third-party MFi controller for.
