As Google had previously promised, they would be announcing Android N’s official name in a few weeks. Right now it’s really anyone’s guess, and some have ventured the possibility of it being called New York Cheesecake, while Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai did state that it would be nice to see it named after an Indian dessert.
Previously Android SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer also teased and possibly even trolled us with “Nori” being the name, but given that nori (or seaweed) isn’t a dessert, we guess we can discount that. However Lockheimer has recently posted a screenshot on Twitter in which you can see in the background, it shows Chrome running a search on “Nutella”.
At this point it’s really anyone’s guess as to what Android N will be called but according to some Twitter users, this is actually the third tweet that Lockheimer has made with some kind of Nutella reference in it, to which Lockheimer replied by saying that maybe he just really loves the chocolate spread.
Assuming this is true, it wouldn’t be the first time Google has teamed up with another brand for Android’s name. Previously they teamed up with Nestle for Android 4.4 KitKat, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that they might have inked a deal with Nutella. Either way we’ll maintain some level of skepticism for now, but hopefully we’ll find out soon enough.
