Uber announced today that it’s improving its Family Profiles feature with a new tool called Trip Tracker. The trip is aimed at making it easier for family members to follow in real-time the Uber trips their loved ones are taking. The tool will allow users to ensure that their loved ones are taken care of, whether it’s their daughter coming home from college or an elderly parent heading to the doctor, Trip Tracker will let them see in real-time even when they’re not physically with them.
Uber launched Family Profiles a couple of months ago, it enables users to pay for the rides their family and friends take, I say friends because it’s not necessary that you must have only your family members on a Family Profile. It’s possible to have friends on there too, all of the group members’ trips are billed to the main payment card.
Trip Tracker is an extension of Family Profiles. It’s a way to improve safety for riders and provide peace of mind to their family members so that they know when their loved ones are on their way, which route they are taking and when they will be arriving.
The feature requires that the people whose rides you want to keep an eye on are included in your Family Profile. When one of the members in the profile take a trip the user is automatically notified with their trip details and they can follow the trip’s progress live on the map inside the Uber app.
Family Profiles is available to riders across the globe and so is the new Trip Tracker tool.
