According to reports, the students relied on technology like a concealed camera in their glasses as well as a smartwatch. How this little scheme worked is that some students would act as proxies and go into the exam and scanned the exam paper with the conceal camera. They then left the exam early after the deed was done, and then sent the questions to a second team.
The second team would then fill in those answers and then send back the answers to the students in the exam hall via smartwatches, thus allowing them to complete their exam questions with the correct answers. Unsurprisingly this is why some universities have instituted a ban on all watches (including regular ones, presumably just to be safe) during exams.
The students who were caught have since been blacklisted by the university who have had to also cancel the ongoing exams and reschedule them for a later date.
