Tesla has a massive battery-making plant in Nevada which it lovingly calls the Gigafactory. The company hasn’t officially opened this facility as yet but actually, the Gigafactory has been partially operational for quite some time now. Tesla is now going to give the factory the proper launch that it deserves, as the company appears to be sending out invites to the Gigafactory opening, which has been set for July this year.
For now, it appears that Tesla has only sent invites for the opening to customers who “won” invites through the Model S sales referral promotion. Invites have also been sent out to select VIPs, as confirmed by major publications including Fortune.
It appears that Tesla hasn’t invited the media to the opening just yet and it’s quite possible that it may not, given that it has a knack of doing such things, the Model 3 was first unveiled in front of owners after all.
Tesla has kept its Gigafactory under the wraps for a long time. It hasn’t really hosted media at this giant facility, naturally, there might be some aspects of the factory that the company might want to keep away from the eyes of the media in fear of the competition taking a hint or two from the way it does things.
July 29th is when Tesla’s Gigafactory is going to get its grand opening.
