Spotify has already made a move into video streaming and the company announced today that it’s increasing the number of video series that it currently offers. Spotify is now working on 12 new original video series that will arrive later this year. All of the original series will revolve around pop culture and music with each episode lasting for about 15 minutes.
It has almost been a year since Spotify announced its move into video streaming, initially, it only offered clips from partners which included Comedy Central and ESPN, with the production of original content Spotify is sending a signal that it’s quite serious about offering video streaming as a big part of its service.
Spotify is going to make the new video series available to free and premium subscribers on both iOS and Android, provided that users are located in the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, and Sweden.
Bloomberg reports that these dozen original series are just the first batch of Spotify’s increased investment in the production of original content. It says that the service is going to launch a second batch in the future which will bring more animation and comedy-focused series aside from collaborations with artists.
“We are developing original content that is rooted in music, pop culture, and animation that is driven by the passion and sense of humor of our audience,” said Spotify global head of content partnerships Tom Calderone, adding that the company is working with producers, artists, and partners to further improve its video offerings.
