When it comes to phones with flexible/foldable displays, Samsung has indeed be making some headway. We saw the Galaxy Round as an example of how phones could sport curved displays, and the Galaxy Edge series of phones has since become a mainstay in Samsung’s lineup, so what’s next?
You might have heard the rumors that Samsung is working on a foldable phone called Project Valley. Basically instead of a smartphone with fixed curved displays, this device will actually be foldable, and now reports out of South Korea from ETNews (via SamMobile), it seems that the rumored device will be launched next year.
We have heard rumors of foldable smartphones before, and each rumor keeps saying that it will launch next year and so on, so could 2017 finally be that time when it actually happens? However it does seem to be a natural progression of things as flexible displays that can be bent and folded can be applied to many other industries as well, not just smartphones.
According to Samsung Display direction Lee Chang-hoon from earlier this year, “The development of foldable OLED is taking place according to our plan. We are planning on mass-production and release of this product by discussing with our partners.” So, anyone else excited for foldable smartphones come 2017?
