Some of us want a smartwatch so that we can receive notifications on our wrists, reply messages and emails, and track our health like our heart rate. However some of us want wearables to show where they’ve been, or to show how far they’ve run and where they’ve run, and in these instances, a wearable with built-in GPS is necessary.
Unfortunately the Pebble Time does not come with built-in GPS, but the good news is that you can add GPS to it thanks to a smart strap called the Pal. Basically this could be thought of as a new strap/case for your Pebble Time in which by attaching the main watch component to the strap, it will gain GPS functionality.
This can be used to measure how far you’ve run, where you’ve run ,your pace, and even speed. Its creators claim that even with GPS enabled, you will still get up to 24 hours of battery life, so you don’t have to worry about it being a massive battery drain. This is thanks to its built-in 250mAh battery which without the use of GPS, is said to extend the battery life of the Pebble Time by up to 7 days.
The strap is ideal for those who wish to go on a run but don’t want to bring their phone. The data can be stored on your device and when connected to its accompanying app, will download the data onto your phone for your perusal. The Pal Strap is currently on Kickstarter trying to raise funds, so head on over if you think that this is a good idea.
