According to a report from Eurogamer, they spoke to CD Projekt’s co-founder Marcin Iwinski about the future of The Witcher franchise following this expansion. When asked if the studio will be leaving the series for good, Iwinski replied by saying, “As we said before, never say never [but] right now it’s really Blood and Wine. This is the end. Blood and Wine is [the] closing and there won’t be any Witcher any time soon – if there ever will be one. And I would really like to see how people feel about it, if they will enjoy it.”
Now you might be thinking that maybe the developers are trying to throw us off because according to a recent outline of a 6-year plan, the company had a mysterious triple-A RPG planned between 2017 to 2021. Now that’s quite a while to go which has some speculating that maybe The Witcher 4 was that mysterious triple-A title.
Unfortunately that speculation has been put to bed as well because according to Iwinski, “We are a publicly traded company so we cannot comment on that but I can assure you we are not working on another Witcher.” The studio is expected to focus on their next game, Cyberpunk 2077 after this. Blood and Wine will be released on the 31st of May, so like we said, maybe you should savor it because we’re not sure when we could be seeing The Witcher ever again.
