During Google I/O, the company announced the next major update to their Android Wear platform in the form of Android Wear 2.0, which from what we can tell is the platform’s biggest update so far, although that’s not really saying much since Android Wear hasn’t been around for that long, at least compared to Android.
That being said for those who of you who own the original LG G Watch that was launched in 2014 and are wondering if it will be eligible for the update, it looks like you’re out of luck because LG USA Mobile has since confirmed on Twitter that the Android Wear 2.0 update will not be made available for the LG G Watch.
According to the rep who replied, it seems that the LG G Watch has already been discontinued, so we guess it doesn’t really make sense for LG to update a device that is no longer being made. However LG has since released several new wearables which will be compatible, so you might want to check those out if you are interested in the update.
Google has so far only listed two existing wearables that will be compatible, which includes the Huawei Watch and the LG Watch Urbane Second Edition LTE. Other devices could make it to the list at a later date, but for now these are the official two.
