Nintendo’s Next Two Mobile Games Will Be Free To Play

As you might have heard, Nintendo has announced that the next two mobile games that they are planning to launch will be based on the Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem franchise. Now the question is, will these games be free or will they be paid titles? Turns out it will be the former, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

The report quotes DeNA’s CEO Isao Moriyasu who said, “Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are both free-to-start apps.” Nintendo’s president last month had declined to comment on how the company would be making money from the upcoming titles, but we guess we now know what the company’s strategy is moving forward.

It’s interesting because the Miitomo was a free title that made money via in-app purchases. However last year prior to its launch, Nintendo stated that they will be exploring various options when it comes to making money from their apps and that they will be looking at both paid and free to play models.

So far it looks like all of Nintendo’s releases to date will be free to play, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. After all we’ve seen apps like Fallout Shelter, Candy Crush, and Clash Royale pull in a ton of money by being free to play, so why not, right?
