Next-Gen Moto X Handsets Could Sport Modular Accessories

droid-motox-leak-1A couple of days ago, a leaked photo showed off the alleged Moto X (2016). The handset appears to sport a new design but on the back of the phone, there also appears to be an array of dots which we had originally imagined to indicate a dock connector, similar to that of Apple’s Smart Connector.

However it turns out there might be more to those pins than we thought. According to a report from VentureBeat, it turns out that those pins will be used to house modular accessories that users can snap onto the backplate of the phone. The report claims that Motorola has at least 6 modules called “Amps” planned for launch.

These “Amps” include stereo speakers, a battery pack, a camera grip, and a pico projector, just to name a few. Assuming this is true, this would be a pretty interesting setup, but it also reminds us of the LG G5 in which the South Korean tech company introduced “Friends” accessories which are also modular in nature.

No word on when Motorola will launch the new Moto X handsets, but it has been speculated that it could be launched on the 9th of June at the Lenovo Tech World, either that or the August 24th date which are shown on the handset’s display, but until then take it with a grain of salt.
