The Roadster was one of the first all-electric cars that Tesla came out with and it really put the company on the map. Tesla hasn’t come out with the next-generation Roadster yet but it does appear to have plans for one. According to a new report, the new Tesla Roadster is likely to arrive in 2019 and that when it does arrive, it’s going to be different, faster and bigger than its predecessor.
“It will look a little different, a little faster and a little bigger,” said Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen, the Nordic Countries Manager at Tesla, while remaining vague about additional details of this upcoming electric car.
Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk did say last year that the company will come out with a next-generation Roadster and that it’s going to have a “Maximum Plaid” mode, a mode that will be even crazier than the Ludicrous Mode.
Musk didn’t reveal much about the next Roadster as well. Rumor has it that the car is going to be built on Tesla’s third-generation platform, much like the Model 3. It may be unveiled in 2019 but since Tesla is likely to be busy with delivering the Model 3 on time, the new Roadster may not immediately hit the market.
In the meantime the company is going to release an upgrade for the existing Roadster, it’s going to retrofit old models with a new aero kit that has been designed to reduce drag, reduce rolling resistance and even add a bigger 70kWh battery pack to increase the car’s range.
