It appears that NVIDIA might have a new Shield tablet in the pipeline because one seems to have been spotted in the company’s recent FCC filings, these filings often give us a glimpse of upcoming devices so it’s not at all surprising to see this. The filing is accompanied with diagrams of the product which looks to be of roughly the same size as the existing NVIDIA Shield gaming tablet.
NVIDIA came out with the first Shield tablet back in 2014. The launch didn’t go as smoothly as it would have wanted because the company had to recall all units due to a potential fire hazard. The tablet went back on sale last year.
There haven’t really been any rumors recently of a new NVIDIA Shield tablet so there’s not much to go on at this point in time, even if we were to just consider the noise since NVIDIA hasn’t confirmed anything about a new tablet just yet.
The filing doesn’t provide any major details about this product but does reveal its 120mm wide x 215mm tall dimensions as opposed to the 126mm x 221mm existing Shield, from the looks of it the successor will be slightly thinner.
NVIDIA hasn’t said anything about a new tablet just yet but the time is right for a successor, and FCC filings are usually a good indication of upcoming products, so if you liked the first Shield you might want to keep your fingers crossed for the new one.
