Musical instruments such as keyboards and synthesizers aren’t cheap and that’s a fact, or at least if you want high quality audio samples, features, and controls, expect to pay a small fortune for it. In fact Moog is a maker of such instruments and back in the day, the company’s legendary Moog Model 15 synthesizer used to retail for a whopping $10,000.
The good news is that if you wanted the sound and features of the Model 15 but didn’t have the money back in the day, how does shelling out $30 sound to you? The company has recently launched the Model 15 app designed for the iPad. Basically this brings the Model 15 synthesizer and all of its sounds onto the iPad for $30.
Granted compared to other apps out there that cost a dollar or two, the Model 15 does seem to be pretty expensive. However it does come with over 160 unique presets, a 1,150 ribbon controller, an 8-step sequencing arpeggiator, and the Animoog keyboard with 22 built-in scales along with polyphonic modulation capabilities, which basically means that this app is not for the average Joe looking to fool around on the iPad.
It comes with support for the Apple Pencil stylus and even external MIDI controllers, just in case the touchscreen interface isn’t doing it for now. It will run on 64-bit iOS devices running iOS 9.3 or later, so technically it will play nicely with the iPhone, but given the complexity the 12.9-inch iPad Pro seems like it would be a better idea. Hit up the iTunes App Store for the download if you are interested.
