However if the do share one thing in common, it is that they are pretty obvious in terms of placement and design, but that’s something that LG is hoping to change. LG Innotek has recently announced that they have developed a new fingerprint sensor module that can be pretty much hidden underneath the phone’s glass display.
This means that you will no longer need to have an obvious cutout or a button that denotes where the sensor is. It will work the same way as current sensors as users will just need to place their finger on top of the glass and it will scan and unlock their devices. The upside to this is that it will result in a sleeker design, and it will also protect the module from damage.
LG is also boasting that their fingerprint sensor is more accurate compared to current button-type designs, with a false acceptance rate of 0.002%. Now as to who will adopt LG’s design remains to be seen, but Qualcomm has proposed a similar design in the past so it remains to be seen who will be the first to market.
