One of the new features of the iPhone 6s would be 3D Touch, which in reality is similar to the Force Touch feature found on the Apple Watch. Users can press on the display and depending how hard they press, different commands could be executed followed by a slight vibration meant to provide haptic feedback to the user.
So far it works fine, but now a report from Nikkei (via MacRumors) has revealed that the upcoming iPhone 7 will feature an enhanced taptic engine. Apparently this engine will allow the device to create more complex tactile vibrations, meaning that it will improve upon 3D Touch and offer more varied and complex haptic feedback to the user.
For example the new engine could create haptic feedback that lasts longer, runs shorter, vibration at different speeds, and so on depending on the action you have chosen. Perhaps it could even follow your finger as you press on the screen (we’re just speculating), but either way if you found 3D Touch a bit lacking, hopefully these changes will make it better.
In any case so far the changes made to iPhone 7 seem to be more under the hood rather than a visual overhaul. From the leaked photos, the iPhone 7 won’t be too different in its design. Instead it is expected that 2017’s iPhone to be the real game changer.
