Hulu is already a well-established player in the online streaming market but if a new report is to be believed, the company wants to enter a market where most of its competitors haven’t set foot yet, even though that particular market has quite a few established players of its own. Hulu is reportedly looking into launching its very own standalone online TV streaming service that will be similar to the likes of Sling TV and PlayStation Vue.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Hulu is developing a new internet TV streaming service similar to PlayStation Vue and Sling TV, it says that Hulu expects to launch this new service by early next year.
There are no official details available on the service yet but the report claims that it will enable subscribers to watch live streams online of major channels like ESPN, ABC, Fox, FX and the Disney Channel. DVR-like functionality is expected as well which will allow subscribers to save their shows to watch on their own time.
It’s unclear how much Hulu is going to charge for this service but the report cites analysts who estimate that Hulu’s service will cost around $40 per month. Given that it will feature major networks it won’t be a surprise if the service costs this much.
Hulu has not yet offered a comment on this report.
