Google has sent out an update today for Translate for Android, the updated app brings a new feature called Tap to Translate, which expands the translation-anywhere feature that the company showcased with Marshmallow in the fall last year. This is going to eliminate the need for users to paste foreign language test in the Google Translate app every time they want to find out what a particular phrase or sentence means.
Since this feature comes baked inside the Translate for Android app, you don’t need to be on a Marshmallow compatible device to use it. The updated Translate for Android app works with any Android handset running version 4.2 or higher.
This feature enables users to translate foreign language within an app on Android, so there won’t be any need to manually switch between the Translate for Android app and other applications on the smartphone when a user needs to translate something.
Google will soon roll out an update of this app for iOS as well which will bring offline support, enabling users to continue taking advantage of the translation feature even when they don’t have data, while the app gets support for Word Lens translation for both simplified and traditional Chinese on Android and iOS.
