However the question is, how did Google get to the point where their AI is so conversational? It turns out that part of the secret is feeding it a ton of romance novels. According to a report from BuzzFeed News, Google has revealed to the publication that they have fed their AI platform a whopping 2,865 romance novels to date.
So why romance novels? Why not something more complex like poetry or literature classics? According to Andrew Dai, the Google software engineer who led the project, it seems that romance novels for the most part follow the same plotline, meaning that Google’s AI will be able to better compare one sentence to the other and gain a more nuanced understanding of the language.
Dai also adds that in theory and based on all the romance novels their AI has been fed, it is possible that Google’s AI could pen a romance novel of its own, so for all you budding writers out there, maybe it’s time to step up your game lest a robot ends up taking your job.
