Google has been running a promotion recently for the subscription-only YouTube Red service, and now it appears to have turned it up a notch. According to reports, the company is offering free Chromecasts to YouTube Red subscribers. The free hardware is a good way to entice people to start paying for the ad-free version of YouTube which also brings several features that are not available to conventional users.
Google is notifying subscribers through an email, informing them that they can claim their free Chromecast until June 19th, 2016. It’s sending out the dongles as “a little treat for being one of the first people to join the [YouTube Red] party.”
It’s not exactly clear who is and who isn’t eligible for this promotion because according to reports, this email is being sent out to both new and long-time YouTube Red subscribers.
The company is sending out coupons for a free Chromecast which customers can claim, the discount for the full price is automatically applied at checkout.
Chromecast only requires an HDMI port to turn a conventional TV into a “smart TV,” enabling users to stream any video or YouTube song directly from their mobile or desktop device to their TV. It’s a nifty little product, one that’s undoubtedly one of Google’s most popular hardware products.
