Since Google released the Android N developer preview a few months ago, much is already known about the next major Android release, Google went through all of the new features and improvements during its Google I/O 2016 keynote today and demonstrated some of those features as well. Android N is going to be released publicly later this summer but today the company has started rolling out the first Android N beta release.
The Android N beta release isn’t the final version of the next major update but Google says that developers can use it on their daily driver, it’s much more stable than the previous releases.
The “beta-quality candidate,” as Google calls it, is rolling out today and will only be available for the Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, the Pixel C as well as the General Mobile 4G Android One device. Those who own any of these devices and want to check out the latest release can sign up here.
Google did not confirm today precisely when it’s going to release Android N, only saying that the software will arrive later this summer, so we’ll have to wait for a couple of months before we find out when it’s going to arrive.
Many would have expected that Google will confirm the dessert moniker of this release but the company has decided to shift that burden on to us, so if you’ve any suggestions about what Android N should be called, please help Google out.
