Last year Square Enix announced that they would be launching a Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Unfortunately there was no word on when the game would be released, but safe to say that there are some gamers who probably expected that it would be launched this year, or at least we would be given more information this year.
If you are one of those gamers looking forward to a 2016 release, you might be disappointed. According to Square Enix’s recent earnings presentation, the company listed several major titles that are due for a release in 2016. Those titles included World of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider. Missing from that list was Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Now Square Enix has since issued a statement that says that the presentation slide does not represent a complete line-up of titles for the year, but given that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is something gamers have been clamoring for, you would think this is something Square Enix would have put in their slides, right?
In any case we suppose there is the possibility that the game could still be launched in 2016, but in the meantime given the lack of updates, a 2017 release does seem to be the more likely scenario, but maybe we will learn more at E3 2016 next month.
