Just like smartphones and computers, how popular a console platform is will largely depend on its ecosystem. It could have awesome features, a slick UI, an affordable price, and powerful hardware, but if there are no games available at launch or if developers avoid developing for it like the plague, then there’s really not much point.
Now for the upcoming Nintendo NX, we have heard that the company is looking to make a big first-party push. We also heard that Koei Tecmo is developing titles for the platform as well, and now the good news is that EA could be throwing their hat in the ring as well. This is according to a recent interview with the BBC in which EA Studios executive VP Patrick Soderlund said that the publisher was open to the idea.
According to Soderlund, “We’re in constant communication with them, and when they come to market something – and if it makes sense for us – we’ll be there.” Note that this isn’t a firm yes on EA’s part, but it’s still good to know that they are at least keeping an open mind about the Nintendo NX. For all we know hopefully this means that we could be looking forward to Battlefield titles on the NX, but then again we guess this will also depend on how powerful the NX is to begin with.
So far Nintendo has been shy on the details of the console and last we heard, they are only planning to launch it in 2017, although there are rumors that we can look forward to additional details like specs and a game lineup later this year.
