It seems that Marvel’s Deadpool movie has been doing extremely well for itself as it not only set box office records, but it also became the highest grossing R-rated movie ever. Now it looks like the movie has set yet another record by becoming Fox’s best performing Digital HD title to date by selling as many as 1 million units within its first week.
To put this in perspective, Fox’s “The Martian” was the company’s best Digital HD movie prior to this, but that movie took three weeks before it hit the 1 million mark so obviously Deadpool is blowing way past that. According to Mary Daily, president and chief marketing officer of worldwide marketing of Fox Home Entertainment, she has called it “unprecedented”.
“The consumer response to ‘Deadpool’ has been unprecedented in theaters and now at home. In just one week, Digital HD transactions are reaching superhero levels.” Like we said, the movie has been setting a lot of records and it doesn’t look like it will be slowing down. The good news is that Deadpool 2 has already been greenlighted by the studios.
Even better news is that the original team that made the movie will be back together, which hopefully means that we can expect the same level of action and humor we saw from its predecessor, although admittedly the pressure is on them to replicate their success.
