Dark Souls is a very popular franchise so it goes without saying that quite a lot of people were anxiously waiting for Dark Souls 3 to arrive. The latest addition to this franchise has been well received, and Bandai Namco has now confirmed just how well the title did on its launch day, it confirmed that Dark Souls 3 actually had the biggest launch in the history of the Dark Souls 3 series.
Bandai Namco has confirmed that three million copies of Dark Souls 3 were shipped at launch, this is now the biggest launch in series history.
Do keep in mind that this number represents copies shipped to retailers and not actually sold to the customers but all signs point to the latest title leading all of its predecessors on that front as well considering that the first and second Dark Souls titles only sold 1.2 million copies over the same time after they were launched.
Throughout its entire lifetime, the series has shipped 13 million units combined, Dark Souls 3 is certainly going to contribute a significant number to that. Bandai Namco has also revealed the region-wide breakdown for Dark Souls 3 shipments, 500,000 copies were shipped in Asia, 1 million in Europe and 1.5 million in North America.
These figures don’t count digital copies and one must keep in mind that many players now download their games instead of buying physical discs.
