Deadpool had an amazing run at the box office, exceeding expectations and quickly becoming the top-grossing film in the United States so far this year. It held its ground against big-ticket movies like Batman v Superman, The Jungle Book, and Zootopia. Wade Wilson has finally been overtaken by none other than Steve Rogers himself. Captain America: Civil War has crossed Deadpool to become the top-grossing film in 2016.
Numbers from Box Office Mojo show that Captain America: Civil War has now become the top-grossing film of the year in North America with $372.6 million. Deadpool is in second place now with $362.8 million.
This wasn’t the only record that Deadpool clinched during its run. It remains the highest-grossing R-rated movie as well as the highest-grossing X-Men film, so all hope is not lost yet for our beloved Wilson.
Captain America: Civil War has been doing stellar business across the globe as well, grossing more than $1.1 billion worldwide, as opposed to Deadpool which is training the movie with $736 million worldwide. Deadpool’s figures will increase once the movie opens in Japan on June 1st.
Deadpool planted itself at the top of the 2016 North American box office following its record-breaking opening in February this year. It kept the competition at bay for as long as it could but ultimately the Merc With a Mouth has lost out to Captain America.
