If you’ve haven’t watched the new X-Men movie yet then you should if you’re into such movies because they’ve done a very good job with it. To watch the movie you’ll need a ticket since it has only been theatrically released for now and while there are countless apps you can use to buy movie tickets, perhaps, this time, you’ll buy them from Snapchat.
Snapchat normally doesn’t operate a movie ticket selling service inside its ephemeral messaging app but this is different as it’s an advertising deal with Fox.
20th Century Fox started running an ad campaign inside Snapchat today. The ad first shows a small movie preview of the new X-Men film before informing users that they can swipe up to get more information about the movie and even purchase tickets.
The tickets aren’t being sold by Snapchat, that’s actually handled by Fandango, but the ephemeral messaging app is hosting Fandango’s mobile website inside it. Once the ticket has been purchased in Snapchat, users can go right back to snapping with their friends.
Snapchat doesn’t really have an e-commerce portal inside the app but this can be considered a step in that direction, even though it’s not handling anything related to the movie tickets other than just hosting Fandango’s mobile website inside the app.
The company may decide whether or not it wants to make a proper e-commerce platform so that the tens of millions of people who use its app multiple times a day can buy stuff and it can earn additional revenue as a result of that, at some point in the future.
