The folks over at BlackBerry have stepped forward, citing that they are currently looking for a way so that its software updates will be able to end up on the BlackBerry Priv – in particular, the unlocked model that hails from AT&T. Apparently, there has been an issue with that handset that might just prevent updates from happening.
In order to be in such a “unique” situation, if you have an unlocked BlackBerry Priv from AT&T and use a SIM card other than that of AT&T’s, you will not receive any software updates. Pop in an AT&T SIM card, and you will be able to do so. If you fall under the former category, that would mean kissing goodbye to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update and other future builds.
Fret not though, there is hope on the horizon, as we have received word that a fix is in the pipeline. It seems that BlackBerry is hoping to allow the hardware to be on the receiving end of the latest software updates even if there is no active AT&T SIM card within the device – for instance, having a T-Mobile SIM card within. Let us keep our fingers crossed that the fix will arrive sooner rather than later.
