Word on the street was that EA was trying to beat Activision’s Call of Duty to the launch, hence the alleged rushing out of the game. Regardless of why the game was launched so horribly, the developers behind Battlefield 1, DICE, have since stated that they have learnt from their mistakes and promised that Battlefield 1’s launch will not be a repeat of Battlefield 4.
Speaking to GamesBeat, Battlefield 1’s lead designer Daniel Berlin said that this is the reason why they are planning an open beta in hopes that the feedback from the beta will ensure the developers have a smooth launch. “It’s a focus for us. We know it was a difficult launch. We’ve been working on this for a long time. We released Battlefront, which did really well. We’re pushing an open beta to ensure stability. We’ve taken a lot of learnings from that experience, and we feel like we succeeded with Battlefront. We’ll take everything we learned there and apply it to Battlefield One as well.”
Battlefield 1 has been set for a release on the 21st of October but there is no word on when the open beta will be kicking off, but presumably we are looking at a month or two ahead of its release.
