ASUS Unveils The ROG Strix Geforce GTX 1080 GPU

asus_gtx_1080It was just earlier this month that the folks at NVIDIA took the wraps off their latest GPU, the GTX 1080 which not only offers up amazing performance, but at a price that makes it more accessible to gamers. Now as is the case with most GPUs, the decision to make the actual commercial versions will fall to NVIDIA’s partners.

If you are a fan of ASUS’s GeForce offerings in the past, then you will be pleased to learn that ASUS has announced their take on the GTX 1080 in the form of the ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080. The end result is a GPU that’s even more powerful than what NVIDIA had advertised due to the fact that it comes with a higher base speed out of the box..

It comes clocked at 1,759MHz which is higher than the NVIDIA founders edition which runs at 1,607MHz. It can also be boosted up to 1,936MHz for those who buy the overclocked version and might need the extra power. Of course running at such high power means more heat is generated, which is why ASUS has deemed it appropriate to include 3 fans in their design which will hopefully allow it to run cooler.

There are also built-in LEDs because gamers do seem to love their LEDs. These LEDs can be set to a fixed color, they can “breathe”, pulse along to your music, or can also serve as a temperature warning in the event that it gets too hot, you can set a color so that you will know. The ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 is priced at $620 for the regular version, and $640 for the overclocked version, both of which are expected to go on sale come June 4.
