With all the hype and success that Marvel has had with their Iron Man, Captain America, and Avengers franchises, many had expected Captain America: Civil War to be a hit movie, and sure enough it was, but unfortunately over in the US, the movie only managed to hold onto its crown for two weeks.
It looks like we have a new king in town and that movie is none other than the Angry Birds movie, a movie inspired by Rovio’s series of Angry Birds video games. According to reports, Captain America: Civil War managed to generate $33.1 million in its third week in theaters, which is a lot of money, but Angry Birds managed to pull quite a bit ahead at $39 million.
If you are surprised, don’t be because just last week, we reported that the movie had already been breaking records around the world, and this was before the movie had even opened up in larger markets like the US and South Korea. We guess to a certain extent no one really expected much from it.
After all it did seem like a rather obvious cash-grab for a franchise that has been around for a very long time (7 years since its first release in 2009, for those wondering). In any case for those who are wondering what the fuss is all about, the movie is still playing in cinemas so do check it out if you are curious.
