In case you weren’t familiar, Amazon had previously launched a series of Dash buttons which were initially thought to be an April Fool’s joke. However it turned out to be an actual product in which by pressing the button of a corresponding brand/product, it would place an order on Amazon for you and have it delivered to your home.
This means that if you run low on washing detergent, press the button and you’ll receive a new shipment without having to go to your computer or head out to the store. If there was one limitation, it was that one Dash button was tied to one product, meaning that you would eventually have several of these lying around at home.
However it looks like Amazon has decided to shake things up by launching the AWS IoT button. At its core this is still a Dash button, but the only difference is that this button can be programmed by you to do anything you want, meaning that you can use it to turn your lights on and off, or turn the coffee machine on, call a cab, call someone on your phone, open the garage door, and so on.
The AWS IoT button is priced at $19.95 but unfortunately according to Amazon’s CTO Werner Vergels, it has since been sold out so it looks like if you weren’t quick on the trigger, you’ll have to wait for the next batch.
