While this would no doubt be still an upgrade for some iPhone owners, for those who are after a truly killer brand new design, maybe holding off until 2017 might be a good idea. This is according to a recent episode of John Gruber’s The Talk Show podcast in which Gruber offered up some tidbits on what the 2017 iPhone could bring to the table.
According to Gruber, “And there have been some rumors, I guess, but what I’m saying is that I’ve heard this independently and it is completely getting rid of the chin and forehead of the phone. The entire face will be the display. And the Touch ID sensor will be somehow embedded in the display. The front-facing camera will somehow be embedded in the display. The speaker, everything. All the sensors will somehow be behind the display.”
This seems to be in line with a rumor from last month that hints at an all glass enclosure. Note that Gruber is a pretty well-connected blogger when it comes to all thing Apple, and he has in the past accurately shot down rumors that weren’t true. We have also heard rumblings that because of all these major changes that Apple could be thinking of branding next year’s iPhone as the iPhone 8 instead of the iPhone 7s, but until then take it with a grain of salt.
