Last week we reported that the upcoming Hearthstone expansion, Whispers of the Old Gods, would be live on the 26th of April, and sure enough it has, thanks to a blog post by Blizzard that reminded us about it. The expansion is now live in the Americas region so if you’d like to get your hands on the expansion, you should be able to do so.
You will only be able to purchase the expansion in-game so you’ll need to fire up Hearthstone if you’d like to start playing it. Blizzard also reminds players that they will be eligible to get free 3 packs if they log into the game now. This is part of the launch event we reported earlier in which there will be a total of 13 packs given away if players were to log in and win their games.
According to Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, “Whispers of the Old Gods adds an exciting new set of creepy, corrupted cards to Hearthstone. We can’t wait to see how creative players are with the ancient evil of the Old Gods in their hands.” In addition to the new expansion, Blizzard also revealed that Hearthstone has since managed to increase its player base.
Last we heard, Hearthstone was home to about 40 million registered players, but according to Blizzard, that number has since increased to 50 million which is impressive. Then again we guess it’s not that hard to create new accounts, and given that the game is free it shouldn’t be that surprising, but kudos to Blizzard all the same.
