Last we heard, Sony had pushed the Uncharted movie to summer 2017. We had also heard that The Last of Us had a movie in the making, although that was back in 2014 meaning that it has been a couple of years since Naughty Dog had two of their franchises put in the process of being transformed into movies.Unfortunately if you were hoping to see either of them release anytime soon, you might be disappointed. This is according to a recent interview IGN conducted with Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann who shed some light on the progress of either movie, and from what Druckmann has stated, it sounds like both movies are currently stuck in development hell.
With regards to the Uncharted movie, Druckmann said, “Every once in a while they’ll come in and they’ll present to us: here’s the script, here’s what we’re thinking. We’ll tell them what we think works, what we think doesn’t work. That’s where we’re at. Last I heard is they got a new screenwriter, but we haven’t seen anything in a while.”
As for The Last of Us, Druckmann admitted that the movie appears to be in development hell for now. “I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do. There hasn’t been any work done on it in over a year and a half.” With that being said, we’re not sure if a summer 2017 release is possible, which we have to admit is rather disappointing.
