It looks like selfie related deaths are getting all too common these days, and more must be done about the alarming situation than just to issue warnings. Apparently, what was supposed to be a joyous occasion turned out to have a sad ending when a schoolboy fell to his death at the zoo, allegedly while snapping a selfie, right after his final exams were over.
16-year-old Manjeet Chowdhary, happened to drop by the Hyderabad Zoo with his older sister and brother-in-law. They happened to be close to the butterfly park, when he decided to climb up a rock fountain that is close to three times his height, in order to snap a selfie from that particular angle. However, the police claimed that his footing was not all that sure, as he slipped and fell in the water, and most probably had his head hit the rocks below, rendering Manjeet unconscious.
Police officer Harish Koushik, said, “There were hardly any external injuries. He was declared dead at the Osmania hospital.” In addition, the police have filed a case of “suspicious death”. India happens to be the leading country in terms of official selfie deaths, having reported half of such selfie-related deaths in 2015 alone.
