Google may have released Android 6.0 Marshmallow last year but there are still a lot of devices that are compatible with the new software but haven’t received an update yet. That’s really one of the biggest problems that users have with Android-powered devices unless they own Nexus devices which are the first to get updates straight from Google. Folks with Sony smartphones have been waiting as well but they will be delighted to find out that the company has rolled out Marshmallow for a handful of devices.
Sony has actually been quick about this whole update thing. It has already released Marshmallow for several compatible devices including tablets from the Z4 and Z5 series, and it’s now rolling out Marshmallow for some older devices.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is being sent out to the Sony Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, and the Xperia Z3 Compact. It appears to be a phased roll out which means that it depends on your location whether or not you’ll get the update on your handset in the near future.
Sony is updating models D6503, D6603, and D5803 of the Z2, Z3, and Z3 Compact respectively, these are the unlocked models sold in the United States, Latin America, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia and Africa. It’s likely that the update might arrive for these models in other markets as well.
