Skype for Web allows one to be able to enjoy both voice calls, video calls and chats on the browser itself, but prior to this, a plug-in or extension was required. It is nice to see Microsoft take the necessary pains to remove the need for such plug-ins or extensions, as it makes such technology all the more accessible to anyone, even if one’s computer is not chugging along as a relatively new machine.
As for such an extension-free experience to arrive on Chrome and Firefox, that will happen when said browsers play nice with the H.264 video codec. This new version is made available for preview from today onward, although Microsoft would like to introduce it to every single Edge user before the month is over. [Press Release]
