Mobile payment services like Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay are used to make purchases without the need for cash, but what if the place you went does not take either of these payment methods? The good news is that if you use Samsung Pay, the company has announced that you can now withdraw money from ATMs using the service.
However, and this is a big however, the only catch is that for now that particular feature will only be limited to the South Korean market and will only be applicable to the Woori Bank. This means if you are using an ATM at a different bank, then you would be out of luck, but we expect that Samsung will eventually roll out this feature to other banks in South Korea.
While Samsung did not state if they had plans to offer this feature to the other markets that they are operating in, we can only imagine that they will, and that the only question is when, so until then we guess we have no choice but to wait. That being said, the concept of using your smartphone to withdraw money from ATMs isn’t new.
In fact earlier this year, JPMorgan Chase announced a plan that would allow their customers to use their phones to withdraw money from their ATMs, a feature which we expect will become more common in the future.
