We know that Samsung has been working on displays that can be bent and folded. However to date what we have seen are basically devices of the former, which smartphones come with phones with fixed displays, but yet are curved at the same time, such as the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
However in terms of phones that have displays that can be freely bent and folded, we have yet to see those hit the market, but a report from ET News out of South Korea has suggested that come 2017, Samsung is expected to release a 5-inch smartphone/7-inch tablet that will indeed sport folding display technology.
Do take note that the report came out on the 1st of April, so it is always a possibility that the report could be a prank. However at the same time like we said, companies such as Samsung have publicly shown off display prototypes that can be freely flexed, so the idea that one day a smartphone or tablet that could feature such technology isn’t really that much of a stretch.
In any case since it is a rumor, it is probably best taken with a grain of salt for now, but given how much interest has been shown in the Edge series of smartphones, we reckon phones with flexible displays could be just as compelling, don’t you think?
