Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010 and given its success, it means that its sequel is a long time coming. In fact in 2014, we heard word that there could be a Red Dead Redemption 2 released in the same year, but obviously that did not pan out, but could 2016 be the year of Red Dead Redemption 2?
According to a recent leak posted on the NeoGAF forums, it seems that a map of the game has been posted online. Now it’s easy to create such a map if you have the time and patience, meaning that it won’t be too difficult for someone to fake it. However the folks at TechRadar have confirmed with a source who is supposedly close to the development of the game that the leaked map is the real deal.
Their source also notes that Red Dead Redemption 2 will not pick up where the previous game had left off. Instead it is expected to act as a prequel to the original game and will be based on events before the first game. It has been noted that the map also reveals certain features of the game, like caravan camps and also a lack of a railroad on the Great Plains.
These seem to hint that the game will indeed be set earlier than Red Dead Redemption, which should make for an interesting story. Unfortunately there’s still no telling how far along development is so we have no idea when the game will be launched, but hopefully this is a sign that development is underway and maybe, just maybe, we’ll get more details at E3.
