Google today announced that podcasts have now arrived on Google Play Music. It’s finally bringing this much-requested feature to users in the United States and Canada. Surely it’s about time that podcasts came to Google Play Music. iTunes has had them for over a decade. Google Play Music users will be happy that the company has finally added this feature.
The feature is similar to Play Music’s contextual playlists for music, the idea is to make it easier for users to find the right podcast regardless of whether they’re an enthusiast or listening to a podcast for the very first time. For creators who would like to have their podcasts made available through Google Play Music, the company has launched the podcast portal.
Categories to browse include Learning Something New and Laughing Out Loud, featuring episodes from popular podcasts like How To Do Everything and The Nerdist. Users can subscribe to download the last several episodes of a podcast automatically on their device and can even be notified when a new episode is posted online.
Google Play Music will connect users with podcasts based on what they’re doing, what they’re interested in and how they’re feeling, starting today on the web and on Android in the U.S. and Canada.
