According to the reports, how this scam works is that it sends a message to users informing them that their Apple IDs are about to expire, and to prevent termination they are required to log into a website to confirm their details. In fact as you can see in the screenshot above (courtesy of Dave Vitty), it even knows the user’s name making it look more legit.
The website it provides a link to even sounds like it could belong to Apple, which for obvious reasons you should not click. Note that your Apple ID will never expire, so this should never happen. Also Apple notes on their website that users should “never send credit card information, account passwords, or extensive personal information”
Alternatively one of the ways you could see if the website does belong to Apple is to look at the URL bar. If it belongs to Apple, it will say “Apple Inc” along with a picture of a padlock to indicate that the site is secure. If it isn’t then you should probably steer clear.
