Mobile payment services are increasingly becoming popular. They enable users to pay on the move without having to worry about carrying cards or cash. Some services even allow users to pay for in-app purchases and online shopping. While those who features are not available in Samsung Pay right now, it’s possible that the payment service might eventually allow people to make payments in virtual reality.
Samsung was one of the first major smartphone makers to come out with a VR headset. The Gear VR is a decent headset despite the fact that it absolutely needs a Samsung flagship to function otherwise it’s just a very big paperweight.
Samsung Pay arrived last year, it was initially launched in South Korea before it arrived in the United States. Throughout this year, Samsung Pay will be expanded to several markets across the globe.
Combine the two together and what do you get? The ability to make payments in virtual reality. This is something that Samsung might look into, says Nathalie Oestmann, the head of Samsung Pay Europe.
Nathalie says she has been hearing conversations about how great it will be to enter a store with a VR headset and browse the collection before selecting items and paying for them all in virtual reality. “I would like to be the payment mechanism behind that,” Oestmann said.
It’s unclear though how long it will take for this to become reality, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when it happens.
