It looks like Square Enix’s free-to-play multiplayer game known as Nosgoth will not be able to live a long life, as it has not made its way out of beta even. Nosgoth, which is Square Enix’s online Legacy of Kain spin-off, has apparently been confirmed to have been cancelled. This might not be an earth shattering announcement, but it is still a disappointment to fans who would most probably have liked to see it continue and perhaps, enter into gold status.
Nosgoth first entered open beta in January last year, but it does not look as though it will have the kind of endurance to last all the way into being a final release, with the beta being set to be taken offline this coming 31st of May, 2016, for good. According to Square Enix, this is because the game itself disappointed the company, as it did not manage to obtain a large enough audience in order to “sustain ongoing operations”. In other words, there was no critical mass achieved.
Nosgoth’s community manager on the Square Enix forums wrote, “It is with a heavy heart and an immense sense of sadness that we must announce the end of Nosgoth’s development.Servers will continue to run until 31st May 2016, during which time you will be able to play the game as normal. After that date, Nosgoth will be taken offline for the last time.”
