Turns out we were right because it seems that Nintendo has since shut the project down. According to its developers Scott Lininger and Mike Magee, “Nintendo asked us to remove Zelda 30 Tribute from the inter-web for copyright infringement. I guess it was a little too pixel perfect.” They added that they knew this was coming but at the same time they held no grudges against the company.
“We’re sad about that, but we get it. We started this project because we love Nintendo and the joy they have given us throughout the years. From the start of development, we knew this result could potentially happen. Nintendo has every right to protect their IP. No complaints from us, we had a blast working on this tribute and made some friends along the way.”
However the good news is that the project will still live on, except that the developers have decided to remove all assets that might be related to Nintendo. However they also note that due to the level design, there’s a chance that Nintendo might still have issues with it, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
