The existence of the Nintendo NX was revealed last year when Nintendo confirmed that they were working on a new console, so the age-old question is when will it be released? Many had assumed it would be 2016 which we guess made sense. After all why announce a product only to release it so late, right?
However it turns out that the speculators were wrong. According to Nintendo during their latest earnings call, the company confirmed that the Nintendo NX will only be released in 2017. To be more specific, they are targeting for a release in March 2017, and while that means we still have a lot of waiting to do, the good news is that the release date is a global one.
According to Nintendo’s statement, “For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed ‘NX’ with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.” Also Nintendo noted that the name “NX” is the console’s codename, and that the final product will be known as something else. A bit of a pity since it does have a nice ring to it.
Now if you were hoping that you would at least see the console at E3, you are in for more bad news because The Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki has confirmed in a tweet that the NX won’t be shown off at E3. Instead the event will be about the upcoming Zelda title for the Wii U.
