According to Nikon back then, the reason for the delay was due to the fact that they did not anticipate the amount of demand that the camera brough, which is why they needed the extra time to produce more units before making them available. Now this is only for the US market and we’re not sure if the D500 has made its way to other markets yet.
However the report from Nikon Rumors claims to have heard from a source that the D500 will be further delayed in Europe and that it might only be available in June. The publication states that they cannot confirm this but they do speculate that there’s a chance the first batch has since been sold out and that new units will only be coming in later this June.
In any case the Nikon D500 is priced at $2,000 for the body-only, and will retail for $3,069.95 with a 16-80mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens.
